You are welcome to bring your dog or other pets on our flights, but there are a number of rules we ask you to read first.
Import of live animals to Greenland is not allowed without a permit issued by the Greenland Home Rule Administration and we require advance notice if you want to bring a pet on your flight. Please note, that there are very strict regulations governing import of animals to Greenland - particularly in North and East Greenland. Always bring the necessary documents and permits for transportation of live animals, as these must be shown before transportation is accepted
Live animals, including the container in which they travel, are paid for as excess baggage. The weight of the travel container including the animal cannot be included in the passenger's 20 kilo (or 30 kilo) baggage allowance.
The following conditions apply to live animals, which are brought into the cabin as hand baggage:
- The animal must be kept in a leak-proof container, which does not exceed 40 x 25 x 23 cm.
- The animal must be kept in the containter for the whole duration of the flight and must not be removed while onboard the aircraft
- The animal must not be the cause of noticeable odours.
- The animal must not cause any inconvenience to other passengers.
- It is advisable to tranquilize the animal for the journey.
The following regulations apply to animals being transported in the hold:
• The animal must be transported in an approved travel container.
• The container must be strong, leak-proof, clean and disinfected and equipped with containers for food and water.
• A layer of absorbent material such as wood shavings or sawdust must cover the bottom of the container. Hay and straw are not permitted for this purpose.
• Passengers can use their own travel container, as long as it is constructed in such a way, that there is no risk that the animal could escape, hurt itself or cause damage to other cargo. The container must be large enough for the animal to stand up, turn around and lie down in a natural manner. Wire-mesh containers are not permitted. Approved containers are sold at Air Greenland's stations. Please order the container well in advance.
• We recommend tranquilizing the animal for the journey.
