Air Greenland and Thin Blue Line enter into partnership
Air Greenland enters into a partnership agreement with Thin Blue Line Denmark (TBL) to strengthen mental health, well-being, and trauma prevention among current and former police officers in Greenland.
Thin Blue Line Denmark is an interest group that supports police officers and their families when psychological stress from their work takes its toll. They do this through networking activities, community projects, and specialized courses that help people process traumatic experiences from work.
The agreement is based on the organization's work to support injured police officers, reserve officers, assistant officers, and municipal bailiffs, as well as their families. TBL is also building a network of volunteers to strengthen its efforts across Greenland.
The vast geographical distances and limited resources have made it difficult to reach everyone. Here, Air Greenland can contribute with travel support through Ilik* – both for those who need help and for the professionals who travel to provide support locally.
We Lift Greenland – Together
The partnership aligns with Air Greenland's vision of strengthening communities and creating social value. This is achieved by supporting the volunteer network and ensuring that assistance reaches further along the coast.
- Thin Blue Line's work is really special because it helps people who are on the front lines every day, keeping us all safe. A lot of them deal with stuff that leaves a deep mark and can lead to trauma, stress, and not being able to work. That is why their local activities and support programs provide both tools and hope, says Inga Dóra G. Markussen, adding:
– Through this partnership, Air Greenland is making it possible for the initiative to reach even further across the country.
Studies and feedback from police officers who work or have worked in Greenland confirm a significant need for activities that help process traumatic events.
Therefore, Thin Blue Line sees the agreement as strengthening their work in Greenland:
– For many former and current police officers, help is far away – both physically and mentally. The agreement means that we can be there where the need is and ensure that no one is left alone with their experiences. It is an important and historic boost, says Henrik Bertram, contact person for Thin Blue Line.
Get life back
Henrik Bertram reports that two activities have already been launched:
- In January, we sent a former police officer on a nine-week rehabilitation program with three sessions in Denmark. The participant works with tools between meetings, and the family is partially involved. After the program, the experiences can be used to further strengthen the effort.
In Tasiilaq, a facilitator with a police background meets with former and current police officers—often one-on-one—to create a sense of security, trust, and space to talk about experiences that are rarely shared. This effort will be expanded to more towns and villages.
In addition, Thin Blue Line is planning a nature-based program for 5–7 participants over 4–5 days with a focus on community, healing, trust, and the feeling of “den blå familie" (red. the blue family)
Thin Blue Line's efforts in Greenland will, in addition to former and current police officers and municipal bailiffs, also work towards involving prison officers, who are also exposed to traumatic events through their work.
