Iqaluit route back in April

After an unfortunate start to this year's planned schedule on the route between Nuuk and Iqaluit, Air Greenland can now announce that flights between the two capitals will be reinstated in the April schedule. The first weekly departure is scheduled for this week, while the remaining schedule for the route remains unchanged with flights every Wednesday until 22 October 2025.

Customers scheduled to fly with Air Greenland today 9 April 2025 will be offered a new itinerary, while those scheduled to fly with us on 16, 23 and 30 April can expect to receive a new itinerary in the next few days.

Air Greenland apologises for the inconvenience caused by the message sent out to travellers on Monday 7 April 2025. In it, Air Greenland announced that the April departures were cancelled due to unforeseen costs related to the route and low demand. The day before the first flight on 2 April, Air Greenland received an unforeseen bill from the Canadian customs authorities, which would mean that the route, which was already barely breaking even, would go into deficit, so it was decided to cancel the first few flights until the situation was clarified.

Today, we have chosen to operate the flights in April and the rest of the schedule in October, but we are working to secure support for the route in the future.

When customers were notified of the cancellations, they were informed that their flight ticket would be refunded. Unfortunately, the message did not state that customers could be offered a new itinerary, and passengers who were scheduled to fly today, 9 April, and needed an overnight stay could contact Air Greenland's station in Nuuk or Canadian North in Iqaluit, who help our passengers in case of cancellations.

Air Greenland wants to stress that we are sorry for the confusion caused by the announcement and emphasises that the airline follows the passenger rules that may apply at the various destinations. It should also be emphasised that Air Greenland has a policy of taking care of passengers affected by cancellations by offering a new itinerary and providing food and accommodation. Air Greenland is not otherwise obliged to do this under current legislation in Greenland but has chosen to do so as we know the conditions for operating aviation in the Arctic region, which also includes our route to and from Iqaluit.

We look forward to announcing when the upcoming departure is in place and the aircraft is ready to take off from Nuuk and thereby connect the air bridge to our neighbours in Nunavut and the onward connections to and from other destinations in collaboration with Canadian North.
