New winter flight schedule 2026 for Ilulissat
When Greenland Airports opens the new airport in Ilulissat, Air Greenland will launch a direct route between Ilulissat and Copenhagen on Thursday, 29 October 2026. The route will be marked with an official opening flight operated by A330neo Tuukkaq.
The route will then be temporarily operated by Jettime with a Boeing 737-800 NG with a capacity of 180 passengers until Air Greenland receives the A320neo Unaaq in spring 2027, which will then take over operations. The new winter schedule is an extension of the existing schedule that travellers are already familiar with today.
- The new route strengthens accessibility to North Greenland, which we are pleased about as it ensures more direct connections for travellers and at the same time contributes to supporting both tourism and business, says CEO Jacob Nitter Sørensen.
Fixed weekly departure every Wednesday
After the opening, there will be one direct flight per week between Ilulissat and Copenhagen, every Wednesday. During Christmas and New Year, as well as during the winter tourist season from 1 to 27 March 2027, service will be increased to two weekly departures, on Mondays and Wednesdays. On the other days of the week, the connection to Copenhagen will be maintained via Nuuk. There will be connections from Ilulissat to Nuuk with onward flights to Copenhagen on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Connections to and from other towns in North Greenland

In connection with the new winter timetable for 2026, connections to and from other towns in North Greenland will be organised with a focus on seamless travel and improved accessibility. Below is an overview of the current connections and any need for overnight stays in Ilulissat.
Aasiaat
There will be same-day connections from Copenhagen to Aasiaat on Wednesdays.
Uummannaq and Qaarsut
From 1 March, there will be same-day connections from Copenhagen to Uummannaq and Qaarsut on Mondays.
Upernavik
There will also be same-day connections from Copenhagen to Upernavik on Wednesdays.
However, travellers from Upernavik to Copenhagen should expect to stay overnight in Ilulissat.
Qaanaaq
There will be no same-day connection to or from Copenhagen via Qaanaaq.
The Ilulissat – Upernavik – Qaanaaq route is flown every Tuesday, which means that travellers heading both north and south must stay overnight in Ilulissat.
Ticket sales are now open and tickets can be purchased via Air Greenland.gl and Club Timmisa.
Future operation with Airbus A320neo
In spring 2027, Air Greenland is expected to take delivery of its upcoming Airbus A320neo, Unaaq. When the aircraft enters service, it will take over operations on the route between Ilulissat and Copenhagen. In addition, the A320neo will also be deployed on the connection between Nuuk and Copenhagen. The final schedule for this route will be announced at a later date.
