Congratulations on the new airport

Today, Thursday 28 November 2024, marks a historic day. Congratulations from all of us at Air Greenland to Greenland Airports on the opening of the new Atlantic airport in Nuuk.

The day is also very special for us, as Tuukkaq is the first long-haul aircraft to land on the brand new 2200 metre runway.

The video shows the first departure of the day out of the new airport. It's our flight GL 281, DASH-8, which took off at 07.35 am heading for Paamiut. Paamiut symbolises the new times ahead and marks the transition to Air Greenland's new schedule.

The new timetable changes our route structure and schedules to connect the regional airports via Nuuk as the new hub in a hub and spoke model. This model allows travellers to reach multiple final destinations in other regions and abroad in the same day.

You can read more about our new schedule at www.airgreenland.gl - LINK  Routes | Air Greenland

For Air Greenland as a national carrier, it is of great symbolic and historical significance that our DASH-8 inaugurates the new runway with the first departure to Paamiut and Tuukkaq with the first international landing in Nuuk. We did the same in 1979 when we inaugurated the then new runway in Nuuk with a DASH-7.

We welcome a new chapter in our country's aviation history, which will bring us closer to each other and the world.

With wishes for continued good cooperation and good luck, Air Greenland wishes you a big congratulations.
