New electric ground equipment and vehicles
Just over two years ago, planning began for the purchase of electric ground equipment and vehicles to be used for handling aircraft at the new international airports. It is Air Greenland's ground handling that handles all aircraft landing at Nuuk's new airport, where the new equipment is already in operation.
When the Atlantic flight between Copenhagen and Kangerlussuaq was to be moved to Nuuk and Ilulissat, there was a need to replace equipment that was 25 to 40 years old. It won't be long before they fail to meet the new standards and IOSA requirements.
The equipment for Ilulissat Airport will also be ready for operation when the international airport opens in winter 2026.

Renewable energy source
As both Nuuk and Ilulissat are hydroelectric towns with access to renewable energy sources, it was a natural desire to find new solutions with electric vehicles. We have succeeded in replacing several old diesel-powered vehicles with electric trucks or tractors, and our hybrid cars have been replaced with electric cars.
Since the acquisition of the new electric vehicles, it looks like the fuel savings will be around 80 tonnes by the end of the year.

10,058 tonnes of CO2, as the equipment had to be manufactured and then transported to Nuuk and Ilulissat. This emission is what is called Scope 3, i.e. the emission created in the process, and is included in Air Greenland's climate accounts for 2024.
There are still diesel vehicles where it has not been possible to find the right electric solutions. Otherwise, most vehicles are now electrically powered.
