Air Greenland CEO Jacob Nitter Sørensen and ICC Chairwoman Sara Olsvig have agreed to work closely together to bring the delegation together in Nuuk and transport them via the air bridge to and from Iqaluit. A Dash-8 aircraft will fly the delegation on July 21 and 26.
Partnership for the ICC General Assembly in Iqaluit
Air Greenland and the Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) have entered into a cooperation agreement in connection with the ICC’s General Assembly in Iqaluit, scheduled for July 22–25, 2026.
The General Assembly, held every four years, brings together representatives of the Inuit from Greenland, Canada, Alaska (USA), and Chukotka (Russia). The General Assembly discusses common challenges and cooperation on issues such as climate, development, culture, and rights across the Arctic. The event sets the direction for the ICC’s work in the coming years.
Air Greenland is joining the collaboration as an active contributor to ensuring the meeting can take place with strong Greenlandic participation, among other things by making it easier for the Greenlandic delegation to travel together to Iqaluit.
Air Greenland has added extra flights between Nuuk and Iqaluit, and the group company, Greenland Travel, is handling travel planning. A fixed price has been set for participants, which helps ensure broad participation from Greenland.
Connecting the Arctic – even when it’s difficult
Jacob Nitter Sørensen, CEO of Air Greenland, and Sara Olsvig, Chairwoman of ICC International, sign the partnership agreement.
– For us, this partnership is not just about providing transportation, but just as much about enabling people in the Arctic to meet and work together. At a time of growing geopolitical attention on the region, it is more important than ever that the Inuit can come together and speak with one voice. We are proud to be able to contribute in whatever way we can, says Jacob Nitter Sørensen, CEO of Air Greenland.
At ICC, there is also a focus on the importance of being able to meet in person:
– The General Assembly is crucial to Inuit cooperation. When we meet, we strengthen both our relationships and our shared direction. This requires that we be able to get there, and that is precisely what this cooperation supports, says Sara Olsvig, Chair of the ICC International.

In 2024, Air Greenland reopened the route between Nuuk and Iqaluit after a ten-year hiatus. The route is intended to make it easier for residents of Greenland, Nunavut, and southern Canada to meet and strengthen people-to-people, business, and political cooperation.
Air Greenland also established an air bridge in November 2025 in connection with the ICC’s event, the Inuit Women’s Summit in Sisimiut. It was a summit where Inuit women from across the Arctic gathered to share experiences and strengthen efforts regarding rights, equality, and well-being. You can read more about it here.
