The World Team on Tour in Greenland

Air Greenland supports Nuummi Eqaarsaartartut in their tour with the DGI World Team, which is currently visiting towns and settlements across Greenland.

Over four weeks, the World Team travels to Ilulissat, Sisimiut and Nuuk – and further on to Kapisillit and Qeqertarsuatsiaat – where they engage with children and young people through workshops focused on movement, body awareness and community. The visits conclude with free public performances open to everyone.

The tour is part of the Sports Confederation of Greenland, Timersoqatigiit Kattuffiat’s “Ataatsimoorluta Aalasa” initiative, which aims to promote wellbeing and physical activity across the country.

Every two years, the DGI World Team travels around the world, engaging children and young people through workshops, school visits and performances. In Greenland, there is a particular focus on giving primary school pupils the opportunity to be active themselves and experience the joy of movement.

It is a meaningful initiative because it reaches widely and gives children and young people the opportunity to be active themselves. This has been decisive for our support of the tour, says Chief Sustainability Officer at Air Greenland, Inga Dóra G. Markussen.

The tour is already underway in Ilulissat, where a performance takes place this evening, Tuesday 9 June, at the sports hall. The team will then continue to Sisimiut, where workshops and a performance will be held on Friday 12 June. From 15–17 June, up to 1,200 children and young people are expected to meet the World Team at Inussivik in Nuuk, followed by public performances on Saturday 18 June and again on 27 June.

During the period between these visits, the World Team will also travel to Kapisillit and Qeqertarsuatsiaat to conduct workshops.

The tour would not have been possible without the support from Air Greenland, Lions and Nunafonden. It allows us to reach widely across Greenland, says Line Poulsen, Chair of Nuummi Eqaarsaartartut.

All performances are free to the public.
