On 15 October 2026, the new company Greenland Handling A/S takes over all ground handling activities from Air Greenland. This brings responsibility for ground handling together in an independent organisation that will support the development of aviation.
Greenland Handling A/S is now a subsidiary of the Air Greenland Group and handles passengers, aircraft and cargo in Nuuk and Ilulissat, as well as passengers in Qaqortoq, Sisimiut and Upernavik.
The establishment of the company will strengthen its focus on ground handling and support growing traffic volumes. At the same time, this development places greater demands on capacity, specialisation and a clear organisational separation between airline operations and ground handling.
Ready for a new era in aviation
Jacob Nitter Sørensen, CEO of the Air Greenland Group, says:
“We are in the midst of the most significant transformation of Greenland’s aviation infrastructure in decades. Increasing traffic volumes are creating a need for a strong, specialised company capable of providing professional ground handling services. Greenland Handling will prepare us for this development and ensure a clear distinction between the role of an airline and that of a service provider."
Greenland Handling is being established with more than 140 employees based in Nuuk, Ilulissat and Qaqortoq. Its position within the Air Greenland Group will allow continued investment in employees, skills, equipment and capacity.
Strong ground handling expertise
“Over many years, we have built strong ground handling expertise. The new company will enable us to develop this expertise further, with ground handling as its core business. Our task is to provide a professional and efficient service to airlines and passengers.
Greenland Handling will support increasing activity at the airports and expand capacity in line with traffic volumes.
The existing ground handling agreements for 2026 will continue unchanged until the end of the year. Greenland Handling will then enter into individual agreements with the airlines. Future ground handling enquiries should be directed to Greenland Handling.
