Artists can now apply for travel funding at short notice when unexpected professional opportunities arise. This is made possible by a new travel fund established by Eqqumiitsuliornermut Aningaasaateqarfik, Air Greenland and NAPA.
On 20 October, Eqqumiitsuliornermut Aningaasaateqarfik (the Greenland Arts Foundation) will open applications for the new fund in connection with the launch of the foundation’s new website and updated application system.
The fund was created to help artists and cultural practitioners when unexpected opportunities arise at short notice. These may include invitations to exhibitions, festivals, networking events, award ceremonies, concert performances or other professional activities where existing application deadlines and processing times often make participation difficult.
Air Greenland views the partnership as an investment in the development and international connections of the arts and cultural sector.
“When our artists have the opportunity to participate in exhibitions, festivals and professional networks, they help forge new relationships and share our stories with the world. We are therefore proud to help establish a travel fund that makes it easier to seize opportunities when they arise,” says Jacob Nitter Sørensen, CEO of Air Greenland.
The fund will initially run for a three-year period. Air Greenland and Eqqumiitsuliornermut Aningaasaateqarfik will each contribute DKK 300,000 annually, while NAPA will contribute DKK 50,000 per year specifically for travel to other Nordic countries. Initially, the funding is earmarked for air travel on Air Greenland’s route network.
Jacob Froberg, Chair of Eqqumiitsuliornermut Aningaasaateqarfik, is delighted that a long-standing wish of the arts community is now becoming a reality:
“Artists in Greenland are often constrained because opportunities to apply for travel funding are tied to fixed application deadlines and lengthy processing times. Although processing times have been reduced significantly in recent years, there has remained a need for a scheme that can respond quickly when new opportunities arise.”
“For several years, we have discussed the need for an emergency travel fund with artists and partners. We are therefore very pleased that we have now succeeded in establishing a model that can strengthen mobility and make it easier to take advantage of opportunities as they arise.”
Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, and applicants can expect a response within five working days.
