New agreement strengthens Kangerlussuaq’s role in Air Greenland’s new route network
Kangerlussuaq remains a popular destination. For the third consecutive year, Air Greenland and Albatros Arctic Circle are continuing their partnership on direct flights to Copenhagen. In 2027, the service will be more closely integrated into Air Greenland’s overall route network. The aim is to meet the growing demand for Kangerlussuaq as a destination and give both holidaymakers and cruise passengers better opportunities to combine their visit with other destinations in Greenland.
The agreement includes a weekly direct flight between Kangerlussuaq and Copenhagen every Tuesday from 16 March to 26 October 2027.
The agreement also includes domestic flights between Kangerlussuaq and Ilulissat, Nuuk and Sisimiut.
Part of a wider route network
The direct Copenhagen service is therefore not a stand-alone route. Together with the domestic connections, it enables travellers to combine Kangerlussuaq with other destinations in Greenland.
“We are pleased to continue our successful partnership with Albatros on Kangerlussuaq for the third consecutive year. With the new flight schedule, we see the direct connection to Copenhagen as part of a wider route network, working in conjunction with our domestic services. This gives our customers more options for combining travel between Kangerlussuaq and other parts of Greenland and is a good example of how we work to improve connectivity and expand travel options across our overall route network,” says Air Greenland’s Commercial Director, Chris Shern.
The direct service was launched in 2025 and continued in 2026. The new agreement ensures that the partnership will continue in 2027.
Tourism in Kangerlussuaq
For Albatros Arctic Circle, the agreement provides an opportunity to continue developing Kangerlussuaq as a destination and to combine stays in the area with travel to other parts of Greenland.
“We are very pleased to have reached another agreement with Air Greenland on direct flights to Kangerlussuaq. This is an important step in our ambition to develop tourism in the area and make it even easier for our guests to experience everything Greenland has to offer. We see the agreement as a strong expression of a successful partnership and a shared commitment to creating new opportunities for tourism in Greenland,” says the Director of Albatros Arctic Circle, Jørgen Larsen.
Benefits for residents and visitors alike
Access to Kangerlussuaq is important for the local community, local businesses and activities in the area. Kangerlussuaq is also a gateway to Greenland’s ice sheet, Arctic wildlife and the area’s vast landscapes.
For Albatros Arctic Circle, the continued service means the company can build on its travel products for Danish and international guests.
