On October 29, 2026, Air Greenland will launch a direct route between Ilulissat and Copenhagen, on the same day that Greenland Airports’ new international airport in Ilulissat opens. This marks the completion of the last of Greenland’s three new airports, bringing a historic transformation of the country’s infrastructure to a close.

The opening means that Greenland will now have two international hubs. Nuuk is Air Greenland’s main hub, connecting the regions with one another and with international destinations. Ilulissat will become the second international hub, offering a direct connection to Copenhagen and onward access to the Disko Bay and North Greenland.

Together with the new airport in Qaqortoq, this creates a new traffic pattern that benefits the entire country. More travelers can get closer to their destination via the most natural route, while Air Greenland’s planes and helicopters continue to tie the entire route network together.

Direct Flight Between Copenhagen and Ilulissat

Air Greenland will mark the opening on October 29 with a direct flight between Copenhagen and Ilulissat. The inaugural flight will be operated by Air Greenland’s Airbus A330neo, Tuukkaq.

Following the launch, the regular winter schedule will begin in November. Initially, the route between Copenhagen and Ilulissat will be operated by Jettime using a Boeing 737-800. Flights will primarily operate on Wednesdays, with select additional Monday departures around Christmas and New Year’s, as well as in March.

Flight GL707 departs Copenhagen at 9:45 a.m. and arrives in Ilulissat at 11:45 a.m. The return flight, GL708, departs Ilulissat at 1:15 p.m. and arrives in Copenhagen at 9:00 p.m. All times are local, and the schedule is subject to change.

Starting in April 2027, Air Greenland’s new Airbus A320neo, Unaaq, will take over the route. The schedule will then be gradually expanded, and during the height of summer, there will be up to six weekly direct flights between Copenhagen and Ilulissat.
