Over the past few days, young people, musicians and teachers have been gathering in Tasiilaq for music workshops in the run-up to the IKUMA Music Festival, which takes place on 24 July. The festival focuses on music, creativity and community and has been created by a group of people with links to Tasiilaq who wish to give something back to the town.

Air Greenland is supporting the festival by providing discounted Ilik flight tickets for the project group, artists and teachers, so that they can meet in Tasiilaq and help make the festival a success.

"IKUMA is a great example of how music and creative communities can create new opportunities for young people and strengthen local cohesion. As the national airline, we are delighted to be able to contribute with what we do best: connecting people and making it easier to meet across the country,” says Inga Dóra G. Markussen, Director of Sustainability and Communications at Air Greenland.

IKUMA is a Greenlandic word meaning ‘something is lit’ or ‘a spark being lit’ – a spark that the festival aims to ignite in Tasiilaq through music, workshops and a sense of community.

“IKUMA is a project created by a group of people with roots in Tasiilaq who want to give something back to the town. Without Air Greenland’s support, it would not have been possible to send the project team to Tasiilaq, and so this support is invaluable to the project’s success,” says Carl Florian Sørensen, founder of IKUMA.

In many parts of Greenland, transport is essential for cultural and social activities to take place. Air Greenland therefore regards it as a natural part of the company’s social responsibility to support initiatives that provide access to communities, learning and experiences throughout the country.
